(I) Main Uses: Variable message signs are one of the main means of disseminating traffic guidance information. They are used at intersections, bridges, tunnels, elevated roads, highways, and other facilities to display prominent traffic guidance information, indicating to drivers the traffic conditions, road conditions, and incidents ahead. Based on instructions from traffic, weather, and command and dispatch departments, operators can publish various announcements and information to the variable message signs, thereby effectively guiding traffic flow, improving the road network's transport capacity, and providing better services for vehicles.
(II) Classification: According to usage, they can be divided into graphic and text types; according to support method, they can be divided into gantry type, cantilever type, and column type; according to color, they can be divided into monochrome, dual-color, tri-color, quad-color, and full-color types; there are other classification methods, such as according to the effectiveness of the function (long-term or short-term use), they can be divided into fixed and mobile types, etc.
(III) Structural Components: Variable message signs mainly consist of a display screen, controller, frame, casing, control box, and mounting connectors. Variable message signs are exposed to the elements, and some may be placed in harsher environments (e.g., high temperature, high humidity, low temperature, salt spray). Therefore, careful consideration must be given to structural design and material selection to ensure proper operation. Late 20th-century innovative products feature a double-layered enclosure structure. This design ensures complete enclosure sealing, allowing for all-weather use, protection from direct sunlight and rain, achieving an IP65 protection rating. The enclosure is made of cold-rolled steel plate, treated with rust removal, rust prevention, and powder coating to improve corrosion resistance. The display screen's modular design enhances ease of installation and maintenance, allowing for front or rear maintenance depending on application requirements. The circuit boards inside the enclosure undergo three-proof treatment to improve corrosion resistance and overall reliability.
